Dreaming of Fattening Pizza

A Children's Poem By R. Renée Bembry

This pizza poem goes with Theme Story Three "One Slice Left".

You may not be able to tell from the poem's title that the story takes place on a baseball field.

In the story, a kid goes to wash his hands after a baseball game. He is in a big hurry because it is pizza time. But then, he runs into problems that nearly wear him out more than the baseball game did! Still... He has to get that pizza!

Sit back and enjoy the poem but if you haven't read the Theme Story that goes with the poem yet, you can find it
HERE.

I dreamed of fat’nin pizza

As I warmed up for the game

Thought bout the pizza feast-a

More than baseball winning fame

Mom says pizzas are beast-as

Oily puddles pool their tops

But lets me eat it at least-a

At parties, games, and hops

I hurried to wash my hands

Rinse away red muddy sand

A line at the big boys’ latrine

Made me wait - Oh!

I could have screamed

Still I stood there patiently

Smells of pizza taunting me

Slices of pepperoni

Clouded my head constantly

Then custodian placed a sign

In the doorway— I read it fine

Out of order — rest of today

The words inflamed me— I must say

The itty-bitty tiny clot

Causing spillage and bathroom’s mob

Might as well have been a blob

I was so mad my face was hot

I speeded to the other side

Of the ballpark so big and wide

Got there a short line of just three

Boys waited up ahead of me

I washed my hands

I dried them too

Then back across

The lawnI flew

At the table

Before I knew

I stood before

Four boxes— “Phew!”

Why it's okay to break your diet now and then!

Allowing yourself to break your diet every so often also allows you the opportunity to partake in functions, such as pizza parties, where fattening foods play major roles in the fun!

Just remember that breaking your diet does not mean you should eat three slices of pizza instead of one or two. Nor does it mean you should drink a sixty four ounce soft drink instead of a twelve ounce drink with your pizza.

What it does mean is that you are going to enjoy a... Read more HERE
